Yolanda del Riego
Yolanda del Riego (YR) is a Spanish/American visual artist. She has been expressing herself through diverse techniques for the last five decades: printmaking, painting, drawing, collage, watercolor, textiles, and digital formats. Trained as a printmaker in the United States during the 1970s, printmaking has defined the way she approaches art. In the early 2000s she studied how to use digital tools in Seattle and worked almost exclusively with digital formats for more than a decade. In the “post-digital” stage of her most recent work, she combines the broad repertoire of techniques she has developed throughout her career.
Del Riego's works are included in many private and public collections, such as the Biblioteca Nacional de España, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, the Calcografía Nacional de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, the Museo Luis González Robles, the Anchorage Historical and Fine Arts Museum and the Alaska State Museum, among others.

Yolanda del Riego: A Printmaker Formed in Alaska
Interview by Dr. Jennifer Bird, Program Director of North American Cultural Studies at the International Institute in Madrid. Yolanda shares her recollections of her formative years in Alaska and their lasting impact on her work. Yolanda spoke about why printmaking captured her so powerfully and why she chose to use a reproductive medium to create unique, one-of-a-kind works of art. She also explained why Anchorage, Alaska in the 1970s was such an extraordinary place to be, culturally and intellectually, for a young artist.
